Michael Platten is the director of the Department of Neurology at Mannheim University Hospital and director of the Mannheim Center of Translational Neuroscience at the Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University, where he has been Professor of Neurology since 2016.
At the German Cancer Research Center he heads the Clinical Cooperation Unit Neuroimmunology and Brain Tumor Immunology. He has been president of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) since October 2024. Michael Platten received his medical degree from the University of Bonn, his postdoctoral training at Stanford University and his board certification in neurology from the University of Tübingen.
Michael Platten and his team have pioneered immunotherapeutic strategies for brain tumors. He is currently leading early multicenter trials testing these strategies. Prof. Platten has published more than 350 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has received several awards, including the German Cancer Award and an ERC Advanced Grant.
